Something Explosive Is Coming This Fourth of July 🔥

Some people celebrate Independence Day with fireworks.

I apparently celebrate it by emotionally detonating another queer romance novel onto the internet.

Book 2 of The Rules We Break is officially coming this July 4th… and let me just say:

The boys are not okay.

The tension is worse.

The feelings are louder.

And Jake is still out here treating emotional vulnerability like it’s an active felony.

After The One Who Was Supposed to Be Straight, I knew I couldn’t come back with something safe.

So naturally, I made things messier.

Welcome to:

The One Who Wasn’t Supposed to Be Seen

And yes… the title means exactly what you think it means.

This isn’t a story about “coming out” in the cute rainbow-commercial way corporations pretend happens. This is the aftermath.

This is what happens when someone finally stops running… but still doesn’t know how to stand still.

Book 1 was about desire.

Book 2 is about visibility.

Which, frankly, is somehow scarier.

Jake spent most of his life surviving by controlling the narrative. Keeping things compartmentalized. Keeping people at arm’s length. Keeping his image polished enough that nobody asked questions he didn’t want to answer.

Then Matt happened.

Unfortunately for Jake, Matt’s love language is basically:

“I see you. Fully. Anyway, you hungry?”

Which is deeply inconvenient for a man emotionally built like a locked filing cabinet from 1997.

This book gets quieter in some places. Sharper in others. There’s less hiding. More staring at ceilings. More almost-confessions. More moments where somebody says one sentence and suddenly everyone in the room needs therapy.

So naturally… I made it funny too.

Because if there’s one thing queer people know how to do, it’s have an emotional breakdown while making a sarcastic comment and reheating mozzarella sticks.

There’s tension.

There’s fear.

There’s intimacy that feels way too real at 2am.

There’s enough unresolved eye contact to qualify as psychological warfare.

And because this is still The Rules We Break universe:

There’s Jersey energy.

There’s sarcasm as a defense mechanism.

There’s emotionally repressed men pretending they’re “fine” while internally buffering like a dying Wi-Fi router.

Honestly? This may be the most personal thing I’ve written in a long time.

Not because it’s autobiographical.

But because it understands something deeply human:

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t admitting who you are.

Sometimes the hardest part is believing you deserve to be seen after you do.

So this July 4th, while everybody else is lighting sparklers and pretending hot dogs are a personality trait, AQ-Books will be releasing another emotionally dangerous queer romance into the wild.

You’re welcome.

Bring tissues.

And maybe a therapist.
